Madhushree (Madhu means honey) as she is popularly known in the music industry has sung for films like Saathiya, Swades, Kisna, Paheli, Mangal Pandey and Rang De Basanti to name a few….
You work mostly with A.R.Rahman
Yes, but I sing for others too. I enjoy singing for A.R.Rahman. He experiments very well with the songs he asks me to sing. I believe his songs are very different. I really thank God and A.R.Rahman whenever he calls me to sing for him and we have been giving good songs together so far.
Kailash Kher Title song in Mangal Pandey, including the qawwali. I recently recorded a song in Kannada for Rahman. Whether I work with him or not, I feel it is my fortune to know him. If I were to sit next to him, even without knowing he was a composer, I would still get beautiful vibrations. It is a spiritual experience.I continue learning endlessly. I learn from his humility. I learn how to treat artists with respect, how to inspire singers and lyricists. I wish I had a teacher like him when I went from one guru to another in my early days.
Naresh Iyer had the whole country swaying to songs such as `Roobaroo’ in `Rang De Basanti’ and more locally `Munbe Vaa’ from `Chillunu Oru Kadhal’. If you have heard of Naresh, then you have probably heard of the story about how A.R. Rahman gave him the good news-bad news line. This was at a national singing competition last year, where Rahman had to judge 25 finalists. The bad news: he was out of the competition. The good news: he would be working with Rahman. “Everyone thinks he is really serious but after one or two meetings, he is so warm. It doesn’t feel like a professional relationship, the atmosphere is so casual.”
Sukhwinder Singh is the most renowned singer in Bollywood today. The voice behind “Chhaiya Chhaiya” has become the most sought-after in India’s tinsel town.
